Name: Netta Marie Cox
Alias: None
Race: Witch
Alignment: Chaotic neutral
Age: 26; looks a little older due to stress wisdom
Powers: Netta practices hoodoo/rootwork-- a form of folk magic incorporating many cultures and traditions. It uses physical elements such as potions and charms, charged through ritual. These objects can be worn on the body or placed in the home to boost love/luck/etc, or given to another person for the purposes of hexes, jinxes or love spells.
Weaknesses: Netta is for all purposes human, and can fall sick, be wounded and die as such. She is not a talented witch, and her spells have a tendency to backfire or work in a completely unexpected way.
History:
Netta was born in Hell, Michigan and lived with her mother and grandmother, both powerful hoodoo women, for most of her life. She was taught from a young age to recognize and develop her magical abilities, and grew up helping her family provide rootwork to a small, discreet group of believers from all around.
As she grew up, the effects of Netta's magic remained as unpredictable at best, acceptable in a small child but more concerning in a young woman who fails to gain mastery and control. She stubbornly continued to practice, but did begin supplementing the family income in a less disastrous way with tarot readings, waitressing, hairdressing, and whatever else she could find. After one too many spells gone awry, her grandmother demanded suggested it might be time for Netta to strike out on her own-- someplace where she wasn't on a first name basis with the fire department.
After casting cards and bones, Netta felt the signs were pointing her to New Orleans. The closer she got on her trip over, the more she felt it-- something important is happening in this city, and she means to be a part of it.
Personality:
Netta is friendly and outgoing, although this can go overboard into nosiness or unsolicited advice, especially around more shy personalities. She's a little prone to acting before thinking, and extremely prone to speaking before thinking-- straightforward and blunt, which can also easily tip overboard. If there's laughing, flirting, dancing or partying going on, Netta is definitely there.
